The National Weather Service today confirmed that a tornado hit an area in Stone County during Friday night’s storms.
The EF1 twister, with a 90-mph wind vortex, touched down at 7:40 p.m. Fiday in the vicinity of Missouri 13 and Ance Creek Road, KY3 said. The tornado damaged a poor neighborhood of Branson West, KY3 reported.
After touchdown, the twister traveled two-thirds of a mile over a period of less than five minutes, KY3 learned from the weather service.
There were no reports of deaths or injuries. Observable damage was minor.
The weather service also confirmed that a second tornado struck Friday night near another town, Niangua, which is 70 miles northeast of Branson West. That EF1 whirlwind hit east of Niangua, which lies just outside the Ozarks hill country, around 6:15 p.m. After landing, the twister traveled into nearby Wright County, leaving in its wake many damaged outbuildings and snapped trees, KY3 said.
